Port Ellen 40 Years Old 9 Rogue Casks 1979 is the second release in the Untold Stories series from the lost Islay distillery Port Ellen. This rare single malt is a vatting of just nine casks (four American oak hogsheads and five European oak sherry butts) filled in 1979 that were said to have a lighter, more delicate flavour than the typical Port Ellen distillery character. After quietly maturing for over four decades, the whisky was bottled in 2020 at a natural cask strength of 50.9%. The result is an elegant single malt with a delicate herbal nose of burnt tangerine skin, mild smoke, crème caramel, roasted coffee, red fruit compote and ripe peach skin. The palate brings much more pronounced bonfire smoke, joined by notes of pipe tobacco, leather and wood spice. One of just 1380 bottles. It takes up three spaces in a parcel.
